Top 10 MOST POPULAR Songs of 2000

We're starting a new decade today! The 2000's! If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time were based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the top songs on the Billboard charts each year. Here's the methodology: each year of the charts I go week by week, giving points to the songs that make the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The #1 song gets 10 points, the #2 song gets 9 points, all the way down to the #10 song getting 1 point. I could've done the whole Hot 100 like this, but that would've been too time consuming, so I just stuck to the top 10 for now. If you are wanting to check out previous years that I've done, you can follow the links at the bottom of each list to browse through the years or you can search the blog archive on the right. It's my hope that as you scroll through this list that you take time to actually listen to the songs as you go instead of just looking at the title. This has been a great way for me to learn of new music and be reminded of songs that I may have forgotten about and I feel this can have the same effect on you, regardless of your taste in music. So without further delay, let's see what 2000 had to offer!

10- "Try Again" - Aaliyah

9- "Everything You Want" - Vertical Horizon

8- "Jumpin', Jumpin'" - Destiny's Child

7- "Bent" - Matchbox Twenty

6- "I Knew I Loved You" - Savage Garden

5- "With Arms Wide Open" - Creed

4- "Music" - Madonna

3- "Kryptonite" - 3 Doors Down

DrogeMiester's Top 10 FAVORITE Hits of the 1990's

This past week I have finished revealing my list of the top 100 most popular songs of the 1990's. If you didn't see that list, click here to start the countdown. As has been customary with this Billboard project, now that I have finished revealing to you most popular songs of the 90's, it's time to give you my list of personal favorite hits from the 90's! I still sometimes get people who are confused with what this project is. If you're one of these, I'd encourage you to look closely at the title of each post and differentiate between "MOST POPULAR" and "FAVORITE." I don't mean to be condescending with that comment, but this should be a lot simpler of an idea than some have made it out to be. As this title says "FAVORITE," that means I'm revealing my favorite hits from the 90's. I use the word "hits" because I've decided that my parameters for this list is that a song had to make the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in order to be considered. That narrows my pool to a specific group of songs to choose from instead of choosing from every song ever released in the 90's. Even with that restriction, there was still 681 songs to choose from, meaning that this was still a difficult list to make. Once you've looked at my list, my challenge to you is for you to create your own list of favorite 90's songs, using whatever parameters you choose. Enjoy!

10- "Angel" - Sarah McLachlan

9- "Blaze of Glory" - Jon Bon Jovi

8- "One Week" - Barenaked Ladies

7- "The Sign" - Ace of Base

6- "Livin' La Vida Loca" - Ricky Martin

5- "Believe" - Cher

4- "Iris" - Goo Goo Dolls

3- "Another Night" - Real McCoy

2- "Gangsta's Paradise" - Coolio featuring L.V.

1 - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - Nirvana

Top 100 MOST POPULAR Songs of the 1990's: 10 - 1

The 90's countdown is complete! You can click here for 100 - 91 to view the whole list from top to bottom if you missed any part of it, using the links at the bottom of each post or the blog archive on the side to browse through it. If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time where based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the Billboard charts. I went through each year of the charts week by week giving points to the songs that made the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. There are a lot of songs whose runs spanned over two years. With my yearly lists I go strictly by calendar year and thus those songs get short-changed. This is made up for in my decades lists where their entire runs are taken into account. With the songs that spanned two decades, I included their entire runs in the decade where they had the bigger run. And again, this 90's list is adjusted a bit because of the change of the Billboard tracking system at the end of 1991 following the creation of the Nielsen SoundScan, which caused songs to stay on the charts longer. I'll start the 2000's soon, but before that I will give you my personal favorite hits from the 90's, so stay tuned for that! Now without further ado, let's take a look at the top 10 songs of the entire 1990's!

10- "End of the Road (from 'Boomerang')" - Boyz II Men

9- "You're Still the One" - Shania Twain

Top 10 MOST POPULAR Songs of 1999

It's time to dive into the final year of the 1990's, which means my 90's countdown starts next week! So without further delay, let's see what 1999 had to offer!
