Last week we took a look at the most popular songs of 2011 and thus now it's time for me to reveal my personal favorite songs of 2011. As I mentioned earlier, I'm doing things a bit different with this decade. I don't want to reveal the final results of this billboard project until 2016 is over so that I can have the most up-to-date version of my list of most popular songs of all time. Thus I'm spacing things out instead of revealing 2010 to 2015 in consecutive weeks and then doing nothing for three months. In the meantime, I will take advantage of the opportunity to reveal my top 10 favorite songs of each year in addition to the most popular songs of the year. In terms of what's eligible for this list, it's not the songs that were most popular during this year or the songs that were released this year. It's the songs that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 during the calendar year. With some songs that's all the same year. But many songs that's either two or three different years. And I'm not limiting myself to the songs that made the top 10 like I do with my favorite "hits" of each decade lists. Any song that showed up on the Hot 100 is eligible, even if it was only there for a week. Which in this case means there were 471 songs to choose from. And a lot of them were really good. I hope you enjoy!
10- "Ships in the Night" - Mat Kearney
9- "The Cave" - Mumford & Sons
8- "Arms" - Christina Perri
7- "Paradise" - Coldplay
6- "A Thousand Years" - Christina Perri
5- "Set Fire to the Rain" - Adele
4- "Lights" - Ellie Goulding
3- "What the Water Gave Me" - Florence + The Machine
2- "Sail" - AWOLNATION
1- "Titanium" - David Guetta featuring Sia

Top 10 MOST POPULAR Songs of 2011
After spending two weeks in 2010 with the most popular songs and my personal favorite songs, it's now time to dive into 2011! If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time were based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the top songs on the Billboard charts each year. Here's the methodology: each year of the charts I go week by week, giving points to the songs that make the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The #1 song gets 10 points, the #2 song gets 9 points, all the way down to the #10 song getting 1 point. I could've done the whole Hot 100 like this, but that would've been too time consuming, so I just stuck to the top 10 for now. If you are wanting to check out previous years that I've done, you can follow the links at the bottom of each list to browse through the years or you can search the blog archive on the right. It's my hope that as you scroll through this list that you take time to actually listen to the songs as you go instead of just looking at the title. This has been a great way for me to learn of new music and be reminded of songs that I may have forgotten about and I feel this can have the same effect on you, regardless of your taste in music. So without further delay, let's see what 2011 had to offer!

DrogeMiester's Top 10 FAVORITE Songs of 2010
We're making our way through our current decade in my billboard project and, in doing so, I wanted to do things a bit differently with this decade. I don't want to reveal the final results of this billboard project until 2016 is over so that I can have the most up-to-date version of my list of most popular songs of all time. That means I could either post lists of the most popular songs from 2010 to 2015 over the course of six weeks and then do nothing for three months. Or I could space them out from now to the end of the year. I've chosen the latter. And in between years, I'm taking advantage of the opportunity to post my top 10 favorite songs of each year from this decade. This is something I've done on a personal level at the end of each year, but now I get to consolidate all those lists into one place. And I get the chance to revise each list based on certain parameters that I came up with last year. My parameters here are that, in order to be eligible for the list, the song had to debut on the Hot 100 during the calendar year. Thus with this list of my favorite songs of 2010, these aren't necessarily songs that were popular during 2010 or songs that were released in 2010. And I'm not limiting myself to the top 10 like I do with my favorite "hits" of each decade list. This is taken from the pool of 466 songs that debuted on the Hot 100 during 2010. Enjoy!
