DrogeMiester's Billboard Analysis - January 21, 2017

It's that time of week again for me to give you my thoughts on the new Billboard charts! In this weekly post, I cover three sections. First, I give my thoughts on the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Second, I give my thoughts on the songs that experienced significant gains below the top 10. Third, I give my initial thoughts on our new arrivals this week. I reserve the right to mix things up in the future and do different things here, but for now this is what I've decided to stick to. I've followed the Billboard charts for a long time now and this is a great way for me to express my thoughts to the world. I hope you enjoy!

Billboard Hot 100 Top 10:

1- "Bad and Boujee" - Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert (+1) -- So apparently this is No. 1 because the line from the song, "Rain Drop, Drop Top," became a viral meme. I'm speechless. This is stupider than Mannequin Challenge making "Black Beatles" No. 1 for seven weeks. At least the Mannequin Challenge itself was kinda fun. Rain Drop, Drop Top makes no sense and I have no idea what it means or why it went viral. It's a weird day we live in. Please, Ed, save us all!

2- "Black Beatles" - Rae Sremmurd featuring Gucci Mane (-1) -- Well at least this isn't No. 1 anymore. Although it's an out of the frying pan, into the fire situation. Can we get a good No. 1 song, please?

3- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey (+1) -- Ha ha, this made me laugh. The hunt for Bruno's record is back on the table! "Uptown Funk" was in the top 3 for 21 weeks and in the top 5 for 25 weeks. "Closer" now has 20 weeks in the top 3 and 21 weeks in the top 5. One more week at No. 3 and they're tied!

4- "Starboy" - The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (-1) -- It is sad to see "Starboy" dropping so fast. I want this to go back to No. 1 until we get a worthy replacement. At least "I Feel it Coming" had a good rise this week.

5- "24K Magic" - Bruno Mars (=) -- And Bruno is still at No. 5.

6- "Side to Side" - Ariana Grande featuring Nicki Minaj (+1) -- I wanted this song to fall again, not rise. But at least this at No. 6 is better than "Juju on that Beat" being at No. 6. The latter thankfully dropped out of the top 10 this week to No. 11. Let's keep it that way!

7- "Don't Wanna Know" - Maroon 5 featuring Kendrick Lamar (+4) -- OK, I knew this song was coming back, but all the way up to No. 7? Why? Stupid radio and their love fest with Maroon 5. I don't think people even like Maroon 5. All the radio stations just play him anyway. 

8- "Let Me Love You" - DJ Snake featuring Justin Bieber (=) -- I thought this song was going to drop out this week. But it lives to see another week in the top 10!

9- "Fake Love" - Drake (=) -- At least this didn't rise any spots this week, but can we please get rid of this?

10- "Bad Things" - Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello (+3) -- Welcome back, Camila! Now let's see if this song can actually gain traction in the top 10 or if it's just going to keep bouncing in and out like this.

Rising on the Hot 100:

12- "Scars to Your Beautiful" - Alessia Cara (+3) -- Oh please let this make it into the top 10! That would make me really happy! Great song and great video!

14- "I Don't Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)" - Zayn & Taylor Swift (+8) -- And Taylor and Zayn make a good third week comeback. I think it was because of a new "Fifty Shades Darker" trailer. Oh joy...

17- "Starving" - Hailee Steinfeld & Grey featuring Zedd (+1) -- Is this song going to do anything or is just going to keep wandering around between 11 and 20? Maybe it's time to throw this to the wayside and move on. I like Zedd, but Hailee disappointed me majorly with this song. And I was rooting for her, too.

18- "Bounce Back" - Big Sean (+3) -- I've decided that there's a lot worse rap songs out there. This at least has a catchy hook even though the song itself is far from great. Just as long as we don't get any ideas and send Big Sean to the top 10 with this, I suppose I'm fine with it being in this range.

25- "I Feel it Coming" - The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (+9) -- Do we feel this coming? Can we give The Weeknd another top 10 hit? What about a second No. 1 from the "Starboy" album? That would be cool. Then maybe he'll release "False Alarm" as an actual single after this.

31- "Love Me Now" - John Legend (+8) -- Not John Legend's best, but far from being bad. I'd be cool with this gaining more traction.

37- "Say You Won't Let Go" - James Arthur (+13) -- It looks like this might gain some good traction after all. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, but I'd certainly prefer this over a lot of other crap that's poisoned the Hot 100.

38- "Water Under the Bridge" - Adele (+6) -- It's slowly rising! Let's get this going a little faster! Perhaps a music video, Adele?

41- "How Far I'll Go" - Auli'i Cravalho (+8) -- How far will this go on the charts? I'm genuinely impressed with how well the "Moana" soundtrack has done on the charts.

44- "Better Man" - Little Big Town (+11) -- This is a nice little country song. I dig it.

45- "Used to This" - Future featuring Drake (+7) -- No! Anything with Future and Drake needs to burn and die. The world needs to stop making these untalented thugs a thing.

48- "Dirty Laundry" - Carrie Underwood (+6) -- Go Carrie!

50- "Too Much Sauce" - DJ ESCO featuring Future & Lil Uzi Vert (+6) -- This needs die as well. It almost made my worst songs of 2016 list. It was a strong contender.

51- "Chantaje" - Shakira featuring Maluma (+12) -- I'm down with the world having more Shakira. English or Spanish, she's fun to listen to!

55- "Make Me (Cry)" - Noah Cyrus featuring Labrinth (+22) -- Miley's little sister has potential. Just as long as she doesn't throw her life down the drain like her sister did. This song isn't bad, but it does feel like it was written by a 17-year-old, if you know what I mean. And I find the dripping sound effect really annoying. Labrinth has also done a whole heck of a lot better. Speaking of the Miley, I have been wondering where her next single or album is. She kinda disappeared from the music world. Not that I'm complaining about that, though. Just curious.

56- "HandClap" - Fitz and the Tantrums (+11) -- Oh please let this go higher! As I've said repeatedly, I want this to be the next "Shut Up and Dance." Make it so!

58- "How Far I'll Go" - Alessia Cara (+11) -- Alessia's version of this is also continuing to gain. Can this go top 50 as well?

61- "Rockabye" - Clean Bandit featuring Sean Paul & Anne-Marie (+17) -- Oh heck yes! I thought this was going to get stuck at the bottom of the charts, but a 17 spot jump up to No. 61 is promising. Now let's hope it continues to rise and doesn't peak here.

62- "iSpy" - KYLE featuring Lil Yachty (+18) -- I'm not surprised to see this jump high. I also expect to see this go a lot higher. Although I'm not super happy about it. But I also realize there's a lot worse rap songs in the world right now. Like our top 2 songs.

68- "Play that Song" - Train (+13) -- Two straight weeks of big gains for Train. Let's continue to make this song a hit! Go top 50 in the next week or two!

69- "Seein' Red" - Dustin Lynch (+10) -- I said last week that I enjoy this song. And I still do. Country songs always have a ceiling on the Hot 100, but I'd be happy to see this top the country charts.

72- "Alone" - Marshmello (+12) -- Another song that I thought was going to get stuck at the bottom. I'm still not confident that it will continue to rise, but I hope it does. I included this on my list of favorite songs from 2016!

74- "80s Mercedes" - Maren Morris (+17) -- Maren Morris reminds me of a young Taylor Swift. She's a pretty decent country pop singer and this is a nice little song.

78- "Parachute" - Chris Stapleton (+11) -- I'm not particularly in love with this song, but I know people who love it, so it's whatever. Not a bad song.

83- "Sex with Me" - Rihanna (+11) -- NO!!!!! GO AWAY!!!!!! I most recently included this on my worst songs of 2016 list, so let it disappear! Promote "Love on the Brain" and let this disgusting piece of filth die.

85- "Way Down We Go" - Kaleo (+13) -- Can this go top 10, please? It's easily the best new song of the year. Let's give 2017 something to cheer for!

88- "Shaky Shaky" - Daddy Yankee (+12) -- Still on the fence about this. As long as this doesn't get too high, I suppose I'm fine with it sticking around.

New Arrivals:

92- "Sober Saturday Night" - Chris Young featuring Vince Gill -- Meh. Boring, cliche country song. I'll pass.

93- "Beibs in the Trap" - Travis Scott -- Travis Scott is a little better than people like Drake, Future and 21 Savage, but I've still never been impressed with him and this changes nothing. Another worthless, piece of trash rap song to stain the charts.

94- "I Got You" - Bebe Rexha -- This is nothing special, but it's the best new song of the week in a very weak week of new arrivals, both in terms of quality and how high they charted. Out top new song was at No. 92. But I like Bebe Rexha's voice quite a bit and this is a decently catchy pop song. The music video is her alone in the desert seeing how many different sexy outfits and poses she can do, but eh. That's the music video. Don't judge a song by it's music video, right?

95- "The Weekend" - Brantley Gilbert -- One annoying think about The Weeknd is that he stylistically takes the second "e" out of his stage name. I mean, it totally works, but now every time I go to spell the actual word "weekend," out of habit I now always leave out that second "e" as well, then have to go back and correct myself. First world problems, I suppose. Onto the song, this is slightly more upbeat and interesting that "Sober Saturday Night," but not by a whole lot. Another bland country song. 

100- "Water" - Ugly God -- Who in the fetch names himself Ugly God? Someone with a low enough IQ to also write an awful song like this. This is one of the worst songs in our young year. Boring, stupid, disgusting and way too repetitive. Mercifully short, though. This barely goes over two minutes. Because, well, he didn't have much of an idea in the first place so he didn't know where to go with this, I guess.

DrogeMiester's Top 10 LEAST FAVORITE Songs of 2016

Two weeks ago, I gave you my top 10 favorite songs of 2016. Now it's time to flip the script and give you my list of least favorite songs from 2016. When I did this last year, and officially posted it on this blog a month ago, I stated that I didn't do an in-depth analysis to determine the worst songs of 2015. This time I did. Out of the 409 songs that debuted on the charts this year, I picked out around 150 of them that I deemed worthy of a worst of 2016 list. Then throughout the course of a month, I listened to them, I analyzed the lyrics, I ranked them, I re-ranked them and after a long grueling process that many times I thought wasn't even worth all the trouble I put myself through, I have come up with the absolute worst of the worst. My 10 least favorite songs of 2016. I don't expect you or even recommend you listen to any of these songs that I am putting on this list. They are awful and they are atrocious and they will make you feel dirty and disgusting if you subject yourself to them for too long. If you want to just look at the titles and call that good, I would be totally fine with that. But here they are!

DrogeMiester's Billboard Analysis - January 14, 2017

It's my second week of posting my thoughts on the Billboard on this blog! I've been doing this for several months on my personal facebook account with the idea in the back of my mind that when the new year rolls around that I would transfer it over to this blog, which coincides with my Billboard Project that I've been here weekly winding down. There's a lot of different chart related things that I could post about, and I reserve the right to add or take away sections in the future, but I've started things off by having three different categories. The first is my thoughts on the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The second is giving my thoughts on the songs that experienced significant gains below the top 10. The third and final section is my initial thoughts on our new arrivals. Let's begin!

Billboard Hot 100 Top 10:

1- "Black Beatles" - Rae Sremmurd featuring Gucci Mane (+1) -- Oh dear. Here I thought we had made some progress with this song finally going away as we started off the 2017 by letting "Starboy" go No. 1. But now we have to suffer through a seventh week of "Black Beatles" at No. 1. Curse you Mannequin Challenge!

2- "Bad and Boujee" - Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert (+11) -- Oh my freaking heck. What in the blazes is this doing here? I could've predicted this going top 10 based on it's huge gains the last several weeks, but No. 2? Why America? Why have we rewarded Migos and Lil Uzi Vert with a top five hit? And the worst part of it is this is probably going No. 1 next week. I'm embarrassed.

3- "Starboy" - The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (-2) -- I'm glad this got to No. 1. But I was really hoping for a stay longer than one week. Go back up!

4- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Halsey (-1) -- "Closer" missed tying Bruno's record of 21 weeks in the top three by just two weeks thanks to the punks that skyrocketed up to No. 2. Next up is Bruno's record of 25 weeks in the top five. The count on that for "Closer" is now 20 weeks.

5- "24K Magic" - Bruno Mars (-1) -- Looks like No. 4 was the peak for Bruno with this song.

6- "Juju on that Beat (TZ Anthem)" - Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall (-1) -- Gone from the top five again. Can we please keep this out?

7- "Side to Side" - Ariana Grande featuring Nicki Minaj (-1) -- Let's keep this one out, too. Don't let Ariana and Nicki back to the top five.

8- "Let Me Love You" - DJ Snake featuring Justin Bieber (-1) -- I'm impressed with this song's longevity. I thought it would be long gone by now.

9- "Fake Love" - Drake (+1) -- Oh sure. No. 3 through No. 8 all slipped down one spot from last week, but Drake goes up a spot? Does that mean this song is going to slowly start rising as the songs above it start falling. Let's hope not.

10- "Broccoli" - D.R.A.M. featuring Lil Yachty (+5) -- OK, this is a bit of an anomaly. Due to post-Christmas gift card sales, almost every song on the charts had huge sales. I expected that to throw the Hot 100 in a bit of a blender and mix things all up for a week or two before songs started resettling, but all the songs surprisingly stayed put. Except "Broccoli" got a surprise surge with one final week in the top 10. Shame. Let's hope it goes away for good next week. I personally expect "Don't Wanna Know" and "Bad Things" to be back in the top 10 next week. But we'll see what happens.

Rising on the Hot 100:

16- "All Time Low" - Jon Bellion (+8) -- With all the crap in the top 10 right now, I would totally be fine with this making an appearance. I'm still not as big of a fan of this as some other people are, but it's a lot better than most of the crap in the top 10 right now.

17- "Mercy" - Shawn Mendes (+11) -- I'd even be fine with Shawn Mendes in the top 10 again. Because "Mercy" is at least a lot more tolerable than "Stitches" and "Treat You Better."

20- "This Town" - Niall Horan (+17) -- And while we're at it, let's invite Niall to join the club. I'll take what I can get right now.

28- "Blue Ain't Your Color" - Keith Urban (+5) -- This was a huge week for country, as you're about to see. All the major songs on Country radio made huge recoveries. It's always a bit of a surprise to see country songs in the top 30, but even the best country songs peak around this range. But can Keith go top 20? I doubt it, but it would be interesting.

29- "Chill Bill" - Rob $tone featuring J. Davi$ & Spooks (+10) -- I hope this is just a Christmas gift card surge. This song annoys the crap out of me. And I also get annoyed with dollar symbols in rapper's names. They do it because they think they're cool. But everyone else with an "s" in their name does it, too, so it's really not that cool. As you can see, two of these three punks have done it. Boo!

36- "X" - 21 Savage & Metro Boomin featuring Drake (+7) -- Too much 21 Savage rising this week. The dude doesn't even rap. He mumble talks. And this is music we like these days? What's worse is this song brings Metro Bommin and Drake up with him.

41- "Last Christmas" - Wham! (+9) -- Rest in peace, George Michael. In addition to this song rising, "Careless Whisper" and "Faith" made re-entries. All three will be gone next week. But it's a nice tribute by the American public to buy and stream these songs upon the passing of a legend. I enjoy seeing them around.

42- "You was Right" - Lil Uzi Vert (+10) -- Now back to me being negative. Lil Uzi Vert now has a top two hit with his featured take on Migos' pile of horse crap. And now this song jumps 10 spots. Why? Just the title bugs me? Why can't rappers use the English language? It's "you WERE right." Not "you WAS right." Freaking learn how to talk and stop trying to sound cool by using bad grammar in order to please all the middle school boys who are listening to all your trash.

43- "No Heart" - 21 Savage & Metro Boomin (+10) -- Here we go again. Another song with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin. Someone stop this train before a 21 Savage song hits the top 10. That would be a travesty.

44- "Water Under the Bridge" - Adele (+7) -- Oh please save us all Adele! In this sea of awful crap that is the Billboard charts, 2017 could use some Adele in order to encourage some actual good music.

45- "May We All" - Florida Georgia Line featuring Tim McGraw (+15) -- Here the country rise starts showing again. Quite frankly, I prefer country over all this rap garbage by a long shot. And I don't mind Florida Georgia Line. They make decent country music.

48- "Wanna Be that Song" - Brett Eldredge (+14) -- This song I don't care about, though. Mr. Eldredge wants to be a song. That's like the opposite of personification. Yes, I know what he actually means. But I still like poking fun.

49- "How Far I'll Go" - Auli'i Cravalho (+7) -- How far will these "Moana" songs go? Are they going to start dropping now that Christmas is over? "Let it Go" stayed around for a really long time. But that also crossed over to the radio, which I don't think is going to happen to Auli'i's song.

50- "Say You Won't Let Go" - James Arthur (+11) -- This was a No. 1 hit in the U.K. The country where they listen to good music. If we would just follow their example that would be nice. I'm not madly in love with this song, but it is much better than the American No. 1 right now.

51- "Selfish" - PnB Rock (+34) -- This jumped 34 spots this week? How far is it going to jump next week? Now I'm honestly curious.

54- "Dirty Laundry" - Carrie Underwood (+12) -- Oh hey, it's my girl Carrie. If you were to force me to listen to one country singer on repeat, Carrie would be the one. I still remember the day when Simon Cowell on American Idol that she would go onto be the highest selling artist ever from the show. 12 years later she's still going strong. Good prediction, Simon!

59- "Star of the Show" - Thomas Rhett (+17) -- Thomas Rhett is another country singer that I don't mind. Although admittedly that might be because a lot of his songs cross over into country pop. Country purists hate that, but I'm far from a country purist. I kinda like country pop. That was Taylor Swift's genre when she first started singing.

60- "A Guy with a Girl" - Blake Shelton (+11) -- And we follow that up with a country the most cliche title ever for a country song. This is at least half of all country songs right here. Nice work, Blake...

62- "Sleep Without You" - Brett Young (+16) -- Poor, Brett. He can't sleep without his girl.

64- "Dirt on My Boots" - Jon Pardi (+20) -- Brett can't sleep without his girl and Jon has dirt on his boots. Good to know.

67- "HandClap" - Fitz and the Tantrums (+10) -- I have dreams of this becoming the next "Shut Up and Dance." It's a simple song, but a song that's super fun to dance to and just a pure delight. It took a really long time to finally debut, though, and now has wandered around in the bottom half of the Hot 100 for 14 weeks. So my dream will probably never come to fruition. I'm guessing this is just a Christmas gift card boost. Still nice to see it jump 10 spots, though.

69- "How far I'll Go" - Alessia Cara (+12) -- I expected Auli'i's version to stick around for a while, but I've been honestly impressed by how much staying power this sub-par version by Alessia has had. I thought it would only get a week or two.

73- "You're Welcome" - Dwayne Johnson (+13) -- Oh can this please stick around for longer? This has been stuck in my head all day, which is annoying. But I'm still happy to see it gaining.

74- "OTW" - DJ Luke Nasty (+17) -- No! Go away!

75- "Red Opps" - 21 Savage (+17) -- The heck with 21 Savage! Why?

76- "Swang" - Rae Sremmurd (+23) -- No!

81- "Play that Song" - Train (+15) -- You know that piano song "Heart and Soul" that everyone and their dog knows how to play, even if they don't know piano? Well, Train put words to it. And I didn't even have to look at the comments of his music video to figure that out. I was sitting there after my first listen wondering why this new Train song sounded familiar and it hit me pretty quickly. It's pretty genius. I kinda love it! Always good to see Train on the charts!

New Arrivals:

71- "Moves" - Big Sean -- Well at least with "Bounce Back" it sounded like Big Sean was trying to write a song he cared about. I'm not a Big Sean fan, but he's done a lot of songs that are at least tolerable. This song is pure trash.

79- "Seein' Red" - Dustin Lynch -- Surprisingly I actually kind of dig this. It might be a little bit of a country rock mixed with country pop. Or whatever. I'm not sure if this can be called pure country. In fact, a lot of country nowadays is also like southern rock with a twang and not true country. But whatever genre you classify this as, it's a fun song.

80- "iSpy" - KYLE featuring Lil Yachty -- I have no idea who KYLE is, why his caps lock button is stuck when he types his name, what his last name is or why he has a 30 second conversation at the beginning of this song. But I don't like it. I don't want to know anymore of KYLE and I certainly want Lil Yachty to disappear.

90- "Think a Little Less" - Michael Ray -- Think a little less. That's what America has done today when listening to music. And I don't know if kissing a little more and thinking a little less is that good of an idea, anyways. This goes back to normal, boring country.

95- "No Flockin" - Kodak Black -- Kodak Black better not become a thing. He got his first Hot 100 hit last year  while featured on that awful song "Lockjaw" by French Montana. Now he gets his first Hot 100 song as a lead artist. And it's not much better.

96- "Timeless" - A Boogie Wit da Hoodie featuring DJ Spinking -- Anyone who names themselves "A Boogie Wit da Hoodie" deserves to be slapped. And where in the heck did the name DJ Spinking come from? A second slap comes to both for this awful song.

98- "Way Down We Go" - Kaleo -- Hey, I have a friend name Kaleo! Fun to see that name for a rock band. And can this song please be a huge hit? We could use a little help from an Icelandic rock band who knows how to make good music in the midst of all this rap, country and bland pop. I don't know why more songs like this don't chart.

99- "hate u love u" - Olivia O'Brien -- Wait, what? This is a bit of a surprise move. I was one who was a fan of "i hate u, i love u," even though I was mildly annoyed that it was stylized in all lowercase by Gnash. I was happy to see it get top 10, even if it was for only a couple of weeks. Now that that song has gone, it's back. A different version of it by Olivia O'Brien without Gnash. And I'm not sure I like it as much. The song worked good as a duet, especially when you listened to the clean version. A version with Olivia O'Brien only is a little more boring.

100- "Shaky Shaky" - Daddy Yankee -- This one is a bit of a facepalm for me right now. I don't know what the lyrics are outside "shaky shaky" repeated over and over because I don't speak Spanish. But I could wager a guess. That aside, this is a fun Latino dance song, I suppose. I wonder how much crossover it will have to the general public. If it does become a big hit, I wonder if it will grow on me or start annoying me. But it's still better than most songs on the chart right now, so I'll take it.

DrogeMiester's Billboard Analysis - January 7, 2017

It's time for a new segment on this blog! One where I actually put my writing skills to work and give you my thoughts on the Billboard charts each week. I've been doing this on my personal facebook for several months now, but with my Billboard project coming to a close and a new year underway, this is the perfect time transition from facebook to this blog! If you've been following my weekly thoughts on facebook, you'll know that all I did there was give my thoughts on the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. While I wanted to do more each week, the formatting on facebook isn't exactly designed for super long posts, so I kept it simple. But now that we're over here, it's time to have some fun and do everything that I had wanted to do. Specifically, in addition to giving you my thoughts on the top 10, I'll be added a list of the songs that had significant gains below the top 10 (a lot of those this week) as well as my initial thoughts on our new arrivals. So without further ado, let's get started! 

Billboard Hot 100 Top 10: 

1- "Starboy" - The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (+1) — Oh my goodness, it did it! We're starting off the year in glorious fashion as after eight weeks of being stuck at No. 2 behind "Closer" and "Black Beatles," justice has been done. After six painful weeks with "Black Beatles," we finally have a song deserving of the spotlight. Oh, and by the way, Daft Punk now has a No. 1 hit! Isn't that alone fantastic? 2017 has started off in great fashion. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.

2- "Black Beatles" - Rae Sremmurd featuring Gucci Mane (-1) — As it wasn't even deserving of being in the top 10, six weeks at No. 1 was certainly six weeks too long. Let's hope this continues to bleed and disappears from the charts before too long.

3- "Closer" - The Chainsmokers featuring Daya (=) — If you're keeping track, it's now been 19 weeks for "Closer" in the top 10. Two weeks away from tying Bruno's record. The only person that can stop them is Bruno himself. But can Bruno get over the hump?

4- "24K Magic" - Bruno Mars — My initial thoughts is that I don't think so. Bruno seems stuck at this spot. Which I'm fine with. I don't really care for this to go any higher.

5- "Juju on that Beat (TZ Anthem)" - Zay Hilfigerrr & Zayion McCall (+3) — I was scared of this. Our two new debuts from last week both took expected second week drops, allowing for everything in the bottom of the top 10 to shift back up. This managed to even jump three spots due to "Side to Side" falling flat. Let's hope this doesn't stay this way. I want this gone!

6- "Side to Side" - Ariana Grande featuring Nicki Minaj (-1) — I would've rather had this stay in the top 5 for another week than Juju going back. But really, can something step up and fix this?

7- "Let Me Love You" - DJ Snake featuring Justin Bieber (+2) — DJ Snake is stubbornly holding onto its spot in the top 10. Giving what is under it, it would be great if this song could be stubborn for a bit longer.

8- "Don't Wanna Know" - Maroon 5 featuring Kendrick Lamar (+2) — Who's still listening to this? I really don't get this love affair that the radio has with Maroon 5. Go away already! 

9- "Bad Things" - Machine Gun Kelly & Camila Cabello (+5) — I'm guessing the news that Camila Cabello is officially done with Fifth Harmony sparked this to jump five spots? I'm honestly curious as to how Camila does on her own as well and how Fifth Harmony does without her.

10- "Fake Love" - Drake (+2) — Oh my freak. Why did we let Drake back into the top 10. Sure, this is not as bad as his other new song "Sneakin'," but that's not saying very much. Drake is not talented. Why does he get so much love?

Rising on the Hot 100:

11- "Caroline" - Amine (+5) — Last week saw J. Cole's full album chart. That happened shortly after The Weeknd's full album charted. With those two albums dying off, a whole ton of songs rose back up. Let's go through them quickly. We start with "Caroline," a song that is probably headed for the top 10 soon. I'm guessing it will replace Maroon 5 or DJ Snake. This is not a good thing. Even though I don't like Maroon 5's song.

13- "Bad and Boujee" - Migos featuring Lil Uzi Vert (+13) — Another song that I don't understand. Why are these two a thing?

14- "Scars to Your Beautiful" - Alessia Cara (+4) — This song is great. Wouldn't it be fantastic if it jumped those two awful rap songs ahead of it?

16- "All I Want for Christmas is You" - Mariah Carey (+4) — Mariah's annual trip to the Hot 100 with this Christmas classic. I believe this has peaked at No. 11? It would be cool if it could go top 10 this next week!

19- "Ooouuu" - Young M.a. (+28) — Ouch. That's a really high jump for a really bad rap song. If you didn't know, Young M.a. is a 24-year-old female lesbian rapper. That's very unique for sure. And I'm not a homophobic sexist, but I honestly think the politics behind this song is why it's doing so well. Not the quality of the song itself. Yes, lesbian female rappers can make bad rap songs, too. Just look at that freaking title.

20- "Love on the Brain" - Rihanna (+7) — Well, if we had to have another song from "Anti" do well, I'm glad it's this and not something awful like "Sex with Me." This is also better than "Work" and "Needed Me," but that's not saying very much. I'd still prefer if this missed the top 10. Rihanna's had too many undeserved top 10 hits. Let's balance things out a bit.

21- "Bounce Back" - Big Sean (+10) — Yes, this song bounced back. And that's not a good thing.

22- "The Greatest" - Sia featuring Kendrick Lamar (+6) — Not as good as "Cheap Thrills," but I'd still like this to go top 10. However, being that this has been on the charts for 16 weeks now, I don't think it will.

23- "Hallelujah" - Pentatonix (+22) — Christmas push for Pentatonix. Very well deserved. "Mary Did You Know?" by them also returned for Christmas. Can this go even higher next week?

24- "All Time Low" - Jon Bellion (+12) — I'm not as high on this as everyone else is. Mr. Bellion I think broke the record for most times the world "low" has been said in a song and I don't know if that's necessarily a good thing. But I'll take it over a lot of these other songs.

25- "I Feel it Coming" - The Weeknd featuring Daft Punk (+8) — I wish "False Alarm" would've been the next big song for The Weeknd following "Starboy," but I'm not complaining too much. This is also a good song from the album.

27- "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" - Brenda Lee (+21) — Such a fun classic! It's always good to see it on the charts around Christmas.

28- "Mercy" - Shawn Mendes (+16) — Better than "Treat You Better," I suppose. But that's not saying much. We shouldn't be encouraging Mr. Mendes by buying his music.

29- "Jingle Bell Rock" - Bobby Helms (+17) — I don't remember this one being here last year? But I'm not complaining. Another awesome Christmas classic!

30- "In the Name of Love" - Martin Garrix & Bebe Rexha (+5) — I was hoping this song would've gone top 10, but they kinda got stuck in the 20's and 30's. Not bad, I suppose.

33- "Blue Ain't Your Color" - Keith Urban (+5) — The highest country song of the week. I usually ignore these country songs. I don't hate them, but I don't love them, either.

37- "This Town" - Niall Horan (+13) — Snoozefest. Better than Zayn's efforts, though. I'm curious to see what the other 1D members can do this year. I thought Louis did good last week with his Steve Aoki collaboration. I hope that one comes back up.

51- "Water Under the Bridge" - Adele (+10) — This is actually one of my favorite songs off "25." I was pleasantly surprised to see it was Adele's new single. I hope this goes to infinite and beyond! 2017 could use more Adele!

56- "How Far I'll Go" - Auli'i Cravalho (+10) — This is not a bad song. But it's a very average song from Disney in a very average "Moana" film. I do love Auli'i, though. She's adorable.

79- "Rockabye" - Clean Bandit featuring Sean Paul & Anne-Marie (+11) — This is another one of those worldwide hits that hasn't quite caught on in this country. A real shame. Clean Bandit is fan-freaking-tastic and deserves more recognition in the United States. I'm glad to see it get a jump and I hope it can gain traction.

80- "Alone" - Marshmello (+19) — I included this in my favorite songs of 2016 list earlier this week. Love it! Glad to see it get a 19 spot jump!

81- "How Far I'll Go" - Alessia Cara (+13) — I love Alessia, but I really don't know why this song exists. I don't know why the Demi Lovato version of "Let it Go" existed either, for the record. And I was one that loved "Frozen" and that song.

82- "All We Know" - The Chainsmokers featuring Phoebe Ryan (+13) — Not bad, but The Chainsmokers can do better. I don't think this will last too much longer on the charts, but it had a good jump this week.

85- "Selfish" - PnB Rock (+11) — Meh. Not good, but I'll take it over a lot of the other awful rap songs.

86- "You're Welcome" - Dwayne Johnson (+11) — This here is the actual best song from "Moana." And I still think it's cool that Dwayne Johnson has a Billboard hit on his resume.

New Arrivals:

41- "Both" - Gucci Mane featuring Drake — Gucci Mane managed to get a No. 1 hit with "Black Beatles." So of course that means he had to collaborate with Drake. And in it Drake admits to being drunk and high over and over. That would explain a lot. Drake sounds drunk and high in all of his songs. But that's what we call music these days on our generation. Shame.

44- "Feliz Navidad" - José Feliciano — Oh heck, yes! The Spanish/English Christmas song that will get everyone in the room, young and old, ecstatically joining in with you after just two words. Sometimes it's the simple songs in life that make for the best songs and this is easily one of the greatest Christmas songs. Glad to see it's now a Billboard hit.

46- "A Holly Jolly Christmas" - Burl Ives — Oh good memories of the classic Rudolph television special with this one. I'm surprised to see this is the first time ever that this song has charted.

48- "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" - Andy Williams — Oh man, we're on a role with these Christmas songs with another classic showing up for the first time. In between these three were the re-entries of "Mary Did You Know?" by Pentatonix and "The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas to You)" by Nat King Cole. Great Christmas Billboard charts!

50- "Last Christmas" - Wham! — And we'll end the Christmas songs with the most controversial of the bunch. Every other Christmas song on the charts is a well-loved classic. This is a classic covered by many that his half loved, half hated. Personally, while I'm not going to claim it as one of my favorite Christmas songs, I think it's a fine song. Due to the tragic death of George Michael (may he rest in peace), look for this to shoot up the charts next week.

58- "Party" - Chris Brown featuring Usher & Gucci Mane — I would love to see a good song by Usher one of these days, but this is certainly not it. This is not your family-friendly party dance song. It's a party song by Chris Brown and Gucci Mane, two rappers that need to go away and stop plaguing the charts with their awful music.

91- "OTW" - DJ Luke Nasty — Nope. The only "on the way" that this should go is on the way off the charts. DJ Luke Nasty is exactly what his name infers. Nasty. In a bad way.

92- "Red Opps" - 21 Savage — 21 Savage. The rapper that doesn't even rap. He just half talks, half mumbles with some random beats playing in the background. And this song is no different. It even has some annoying sound effects that sound like he let a 12-year-old into the recording studio with him.

99- "Swang" - Rae Sremmurd — Well, this is not part of a Mannequin Challenge. This means this won't gain any traction, right? I mean, it better not. "Black Beatles" should be these brothers' first and last No. 1 hit. In fact, let's just never even invite them into the top 10 again. That would be nice. I will say this is more tolerable than the three rap songs above it, but it's still not good.

DrogeMiester's Top 10 FAVORITE Songs of 2016

The year 2016 is coming to an end and since the Billboard charts are a week ahead of the rest of the world as pertaining the end of the year, last week I revealed the top 10 most popular songs of 2016. This week it's time to give you my personal favorite songs of 2016. The last few months, as I've been revealing my personal favorite songs of each year from this decade, I've been saying that eligible are any songs that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 during the calendar year (not just songs that reached the top 10 like my favorite hits lists) as opposed to songs that were released during the year or were popular on the charts during the year. And while I'm still holding to that, I snagged a loophole with that system as Leonard Cohen's classic song "Hallelujah" from 1984 debuted on the charts for the first time following his passing. So I'm adding that the song has to have been released within the last few years. I don't know exactly when that cutoff is, but 1984 is beyond that. So that song sadly won't be on here. But recent covers of the song that charted are totally legit. With that out of the way, let's begin!

Top 10 MOST POPULAR Songs of 2016

The final week of Billboard charts for 2016 has been released and that means it's time to dive into the top 10 most popular songs of this year! Billboard released their own version of this earlier this month and in case you are wondering, there are three reasons why my list will be different than there's: 1- they have actual chart points; 2- they keep track of the whole Hot 100; 3- Their tracking year is from December through November so that they can release the end of year charts a month early. So yeah, just another reminder that my goal was never to replicate their charts. It's to figure out the top songs with my own system. If you're new this week, each week this year I gave points to the songs that made the top 10. The No. 1 song received 10 points, the No. 2 song received nine points, all the way down to the No. 10 song receiving one point. The reason I didn't do the whole Hot 100 that way is because that would've take more time than I cared to spend. DrogeMiester's Top 10 LEAST FAVORITE Songs of 2015

Here's something new. Last year when I was creating my end of year music lists, I decided to add something new to my lineup and make a list of my least favorite songs in order to give me an outlet to complain a bit at all the crap that hit the charts. Since I put so much time into subjecting myself to all the awful music in order create a list of the absolute worst, I had to re-post that list here. Eligible for this list are any song that debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 during the calendar year of 2015. And no, I didn't sit down and do an in-depth analysis in order to determine the most poorly written songs or the worst lyrics. This is not an exact science. This is simply a list of songs that bothered me the most for whatever reason. And yes, a bad song that stayed on the charts for a long time had a tendency of bothering more than a bad song that was only on the charts for a week or two. Finally, I don't actually recommend listening to any of these songs or watching any of these videos since several of them are actually fairly explicit when it comes to the lyrics. But I post them in case you are curious to know why I hate these songs. A "feel my pain" sort of thing. If you want to just look at the title in this instance and not watch the videos, I actually recommend that more.
