Top 10 MOST POPULAR Songs of 1984

It's once again time to dive into another year in the Billboard charts. If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time were based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the top songs on the Billboard charts each year. Here's the methodology: each year of the charts I go week by week, giving points to the songs that make the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The #1 song gets 10 points, the #2 song gets 9 points, all the way down to the #10 song getting 1 point. I could've done the whole Hot 100 like this, but that would've been too time consuming, so I just stuck to the top 10 for now. If you are wanting to check out previous years that I've done, you can follow the links at the bottom of each list to browse through the years or you can search the blog archive on the right. It's my hope that as you scroll through this list that you take time to actually listen to the songs as you go instead of just looking at the title. This has been a great way for me to learn of new music and be reminded of songs that I may have forgotten about and I feel this can have the same effect on you, regardless of your taste in music. So without further delay, let's see what 1984 had to offer!

10- "Let's Hear it for the Boy" - Deniece Williams

9- "Missing You" - John Waite

8- "I Just Called to Say I Love You" - Stevie Wonder

7- "Footloose" - Kenny Loggins

6- "Hello" - Lionel Richie

5- "What's Love Got to Do With It" - Tina Turner

3- "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" - Phil Collins

2- "Jump" - Van Halen

DrogeMiester's Top 10 FAVORITE Hits of the 1970's

This past week I finished revealing my top 100 most popular songs of the 1970's. I got a good number of views for the posts from 100 - 11, but a surprisingly few amount people looked at the actual top 10 most popular songs of the 1970's, so if you are one of those people who haven't, go check that out! Before I move onto the 1980's next week, it's time to stop for a moment and share my top 10 personal favorite hits from the 1970's. I'm surprised by how many people are still confused with this project. If it says "MOST POPULAR" at the top of the list, that's the most popular songs of that year/decade based on Billboard chart performance. I went through the whole Billboard Hot 100 from 1958 to now to figure those lists out, assigning points to the songs each week. If it says "FAVORITE" at the top, that's my own personal favorite songs. That should be a simple distinction, so don't let yourself get confused. This here is a list of my favorite hits from the 1970's. You'll notice I use the word "hits" with this. That's because, for various reasons, I decided to limit myself to songs that made it into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at some point during the decade. I hope you enjoy!

10- "Popcorn" - Hot Butter

9- "I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor

8- "Y.M.C.A." - Village People

7- "American Pie (Parts I & II)" - Don McLean

6- "Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen

5- "Gonna Fly Now" - Bill Conti

4- "Star Wars (Main Title)" - London Symphony Orchestra

3- "Stayin' Alive" - Bee Gees

2- "Dream On" - Aerosmith

1- "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon & Garfunkle

I include their entire run in the decade where they made the biggest impact. We've now gone through every year of the 1970's and so now it is time to count down the top 100 songs of the entire 1970's. I'll be doing this over the course of the next 10 days, revealing the list 10 songs at a time, starting here with 100 - 91. If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time where based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the Billboard charts. I went through each year of the charts week by week giving points to the songs that made the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. As pertaining to this decade list, there are a lot of songs whose runs spanned between two years, thus they get short-changed on my yearly lists because I go by calendar year only there. This is made up for in this decade list as I took into account their entire run, which includes the songs whose runs spanned two decades. I include their entire run in the decade where they made the biggest impact. There are links at the bottom of each section that will make it easy for you to browse through the whole list or you can just use the blog archive on the side. Without further ado, let's get this started and see how all these 70's tunes stack up!

100- "Someday We'll Be Together" - Diana Ross & The Supremes

99- "I'll Take You There" - The Staple Singers

Top 10 MOST POPULAR Songs of 1979

So without further delay, let's see what the final year of the 70's had to offer!

10- "Babe" - Styx

9- "Good Times" - Chic

8- "Still" - Commodores

7- "Reunited" - Peaches & Herb

6- "Ring My Bell" - Anita Ward

5- "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?" - Rod Stewart

4- "Bad Girls" - Donna Summer

3- "My Sharona" - The Knack

2- "I Will Survive" - Gloria Gaynor

1- "Hot Stuff" - Donna Summer
