We're all done with the 1960's. If you missed any of the yearly lists, the decade list, or my list of personal favorite songs from that decade, check them out on the blog archive on the right. Now it's time to start with the 1970's. If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time were based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the top songs on the Billboard charts each year. Here's the methodology: each year of the charts I go week by week, giving points to the songs that make the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The #1 song gets 10 points, the #2 song gets 9 points, all the way down to the #10 song getting 1 point. I could've done the whole Hot 100 like this, but that would've been too time consuming, so I just stuck to the top 10 for now. If you are wanting to check out previous years that I've done, you can follow the links at the bottom of each list to browse through the years or you can search the blog archive on the right. It's my hope that as you scroll through this list that you take time to actually listen to the songs as you go instead of just looking at the title. This has been a great way for me to learn of new music and be reminded of songs that I may have forgotten about and I feel this can have the same effect on you, regardless of your taste in music. So without further delay, let's see what this year has to offer! 10- "We've Only Just Begun" - Carpenters
9- "Make it With You" - Bread
8- "American Woman/No Sugar Tonight" - The Guess Who
7- "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" - Three Dog Night
6- "ABC" - Jackson 5
5- "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" - BJ Thomas
4- "(They Long to Be) Close to You" - Carpenters
3- "Bridge Over Troubled Water" - Simon & Garfunkel
I have now finished everything I have on the 1960's. I have posted the top 10 songs from each year as well as a huge list of the top 100 songs of the entire decade. I won't post links to those here, but if you want to see them, check out the blog archive on the right. Before I dive into the 1970's, though, I wanted to finish the 1960's off in a fun way. After I post a list of the most popular songs of the year or the decade, a comment question that is presented to me is what are MY favorite songs of the year or decade? So that's what I'm doing here. I gave you the popular songs of the 60's. Now I'm giving you my personal favorites. However, you'll notice the careful wording in the title. I use the wording "Top 10 FAVORITE Hits" instead of "Top 10 FAVORITE Songs." I do so because with this list, I limited myself to songs in the 60's that made it onto the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. My reasoning for this is that I did not look at every song that made it into the whole Hot 100 nor have I listened to every song that was written and released in the 1960's, so I don't consider myself a fair judge of that. Thus is why I'm sticking to the top 10 only for this list. But there were over 1,000 songs that made it into the top 10 in the 60's, so it's still a very large pool to pick from, making it so that this was really hard. I hope you enjoy it! Next week we will be looking at the top songs of 1970, so stay tuned for that. 10- "Monster Mash" - Bobby "Boris" Pickett & The Crypt-Kickers
9- "The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)" - The Tokens

Now that I've gone through every individual year of the 1960's, it's time to cap that off by seeing how all of those songs stack together in one giant list that counts down the top 100 songs of the entire decade. I will be posting this list 10 songs at a time over the course of the next 10 days, so this should be fun. If you are new this week, I describe this project and my methodology in each of my yearly top 10 lists, so make sure to check out any or all of those in the blog archive. As pertaining to this decade list, there are a lot of songs that got stuck between the years. I don't account for that on the yearly lists because I go strictly by calendar year only, but I do make up for that here and thus you'll see that some songs ended up a lot higher than certain songs that previously topped them on their corresponding yearly list. Along these lines, I am fair to the songs that get split between the decades as I have included their entire run in the decade where they made the biggest impact. Also, if you've seen every individual year before looking at this list, you should find it interesting to see how the songs from different years stack up as there were some years in the 60's that were really strong and other years that were really weak. Finally, I have provided links at the bottom that should make this easy to browse through or you can just just use the blog archive on the side. Enjoy!

This is it. The final year of the 1960's! This means that next week will start the countdown of the top 100 songs of the 1960's, so stay tuned for that. But first we have to look at 1969. If you are new this week, I had a goal recently to determine what the top songs of all time were based on a formula that I came up with to keep track of the top songs on the Billboard charts each year.
